About Dr. Roberta Kalafut
Roberta Kalafut works with the other physicians at SpineAbilene to provide the community members of Abilene, Texas, with a single destination for nonsurgical solutions to neck and back pain.
SpineAbilene was founded in 1998 by Roberta Kalafut and her husband, Edward Brandecker, who also specializes in physical medicine. SpineAbilene brings patients together with outstanding physiatrists like Roberta Kalafut to treat a range of spinal conditions and related symptoms. Roberta Kalafut’s patients often respond very positively to physical therapy, but for serious conditions like herniated discs and spinal fractures, a board-certified spinal surgeon is affiliated with SpineAbilene.
At SpineAbilene, Roberta Kalafut and the staff use a number of state-of-the-art tools to detect and resolve spine issues, including X-Ray, EMG-NCS, and bone density scans. Like Roberta Kalafut, the other members of the SpineAbilene team of physiatrists are fellowship trained and board certified.

Board certified in pain medicine, Roberta Kalafut is a member of the Texas Medical Association and was appointed to the District Review Committee of the Texas Medical Board by Governor Rick Perry in 2009. Roberta Kalafut completed her Bachelor of Science at Youngstown State University, her Doctor of Osteopathy at Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine, and her residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital and Sinai Hospital.
